Roof vents and LED bulbs

I have few questions for the good folks who belong to RV Net form.
1) Anyone have experience with the roof top vents on 5th wheels? I've been thinking of purchasing two for my fifth wheel but don’t know if it would be worth the money. Advertisements for roof vents state, vents can be left open while driving for air circulation that would allow the trailer to remain cool. Is this just B.S. hype or does it actually do what they advertise?
2) Also been thinking of replacing the interior bulbs of my 5th wheel with LED’s. Are they worth the expense? I have read reviews on LED’s and the major complaint is the “flickering” after a minimal use. Anyone have similar experience?

OP... ?? Covers for the vents or the vents themselves? Hopefully your 5er already has some vents. The covers are well worth it.
  • You're asking about 2 of my very favorite mods. Definitely a no brainer adding vent covers, and we did a full LED conversion over 3 years ago using the Ebay vendor linked above. Not a single LED has flickered or failed except for the few that I purchased from US sources paying several times the price. We drycamp and boondock mostly and both mods have played a very important part of our success while doing so.
  • Or just buy a new FW, as almost all are coming with a full complement of LED bulbs. :-)

If you camp without electricity available, or want to avoid running your generator, LED lighting is tremendously helpful. The power consumption is about 1% of incandescent bulbs.

LEDTrailerLights.com has good quality LED lights with a selection of base types. We used them for 3 years with no problems. They are a little pricey but you can buy a few at a time. Start with replacing your most-used lights.

That's my plan, and a great idea:)

  • Amazon has a sale on some of the bulbs. I ordered them yesterday and they have already shipped.
My light fixtures seemed to be getting very hot this is the reason I went with the LED bulb. Will see how it works out.
  • I would highly recommend roof vent covers...IF it's raining, you can open your ceiling vents and still have air circulate....Most leave the roof vents open when 5er sit's to help "air out" and help keep a little dryer inside..Don't know that it necessarily makes it any "cooler".....but hot air will rise and if vent is open, it'll go out the vent...Cost isn't much and install is simple..well worth the cost.

LED lighting, it's your call...I've not gone to it yet, but possibly will in the near future...Only drawback I see is initial cost is pricey....but well worth it in the long run, if LED lighting lives up to expectations...I like the looks of them and again, eventually, I'm going to convert to LED lighting.
