It is not a good idea to leave the furnace running for safety and functional reasons. Safety is obvious and those the have vents covered by slides are taking a risk of over-heating the furnace. The furnace mfg's recommend that non obstructed air flow is necessary and any vent that is block limits that air flow. That is the reason RV manufacturers do not use vents that are closeable.
