Our heater goes off. Then when we turn it off and then back on it will work and then go off

There should be a status panel in the trailer, showing battery voltage, fresh / grey / black tank levels. With shore power, the battery *should* show full. If it doesn't, then you will need to break out a volt meter, and measure the voltage on the batteries.
