Wouldn't necessarily need to weigh much more. Workmanship needs to improve as well and thats half the equation. You can take the same pile of materials and greatly improve the quality of the product just by slowing down and being conscientious of your work. I work in residential construction and say that all the time, same pile of materials and can have vastly different build quality depending on who built it. But time is money they say.

Yep, time is money, but people don’t even try for good workmanship anymore. A friend owns a home built in the late 1800s. He has done a bit of research on it and found who built it and that it took about 3 years to complete. Virtually all the wood trim, indoor and out, was built either on site or by a cabinet shop in town. When he put in modern windows, he ordered a custom cutter to match some damaged molding. He asked if I could tell the difference, and I immediately pointed out the new pieces. He asked how, and I told him the new joints aren’t as well done. Gaps and uneven joints are now acceptable. My grandpa, born in 1900, showed me how to fit wood trim together using sandpaper and a razor sharp plane. If I was a tenth as good as he was I’d be overjoyed, and he could do it nearly as fast as people who think a 16th gap is a tight joint.
