Sandpiper thoughts/opinions/rants?

hi all,

I'm looking at picking up a sandpiper 2016 365SAQB and I'd love to get some feedback.

Model has auto leveling, outdoor kitchen, 2nd ac, central vac, residential fridge and king bed. I'm not really looking for feedback on the options other than on reliability/issues/history.

Would love to hear some thoughts from sandpiper owners before picking one up.

The family and I will most likely be fulltiming it (and we have 5 kids; it would be nice if it didn't fall apart next month -i'm sure the children will do what they can though!)

Thanks!
  • Old guy, I believe that Forest River now owns/makes 82 different brands. Now that figure includes pontoon boats, park models and other non RV items. These RV's are made in many different plants that operate somewhat autonomously. So to say Forest River is bad, really doesn't say much. You may have problems with an R Pod for example but no problem at all with a Columbus. And is the problem with the construction or with the components that are under individual company warranties or service.
Having just come from the FROG (Forest River Owners Group) rally, I saw first hand the commitment that Forest River makes to its customers. And I don't believe that any other manufacturer comes even close. The technicians were friendly, knowledgeable (or if they did know got someone who was) and efficient. Yes they replaced microwaves, awnings, refrigerators, etc. but that other than those components were used in the trailers is not directly Forest Rivers' problem if they don't perform properly.
To answer the OP's question, the Sandpiper units that I saw at the rally seemed to be a good unit at their price point.
  • F.R.O.G will do the work free and be good if you are the ORIGINAL OWNER.Even if it is only 2 years old.
Then if your not the original owner your screwed
  • I've had one for a couple months and it's been great so far. I lived in it for about three weeks as we moved. So far I've had zero quality issues. For the money I think they're hard to beat.
  • Carpetguy2, that is not correct that you have to be the original owner. I personally saw Cedar Creek repair two different trailers at the last FROG, for no charge, that were not original owner. One was a 2009 and the other a 2007. They even fixed a 2002 and a couple 2004 Creeks, but those did happen to be the original owner. These repairs were done on trailers of CCRVOC members. No club member paid anything for the repairs completed at the rally or taken back to the factory for repairs. I don't know what all they did for the other 70+ Creeks that were not club members.
I do not know the other divisions' policies on repairs, but after listening to Pete Liegel, I presume it is the same or comparable to Cedar Creek's policies.
  • I have the '12 365SAQ in my Sig. We've loves every minute of owning it except for the debate over the 7k axles that FR resolved. If anything happened to this camper and our son is still with us, I would buy another in a heartbeat! The new ones have 7k axles and a redesigned master bath. This unit has the best floorplan on the market for those of us with kids in my opinion. One thing I would suggest is to change the tires out to either Goodyear G615s or the Sailun S637s and enjoy!
  • elhajj33,

How do you plan on carrying 7 family members in the vehicle towing the fiver? Or stated better, what tow vehicle is available to do that safely?

The few ideas that come to my mind are:

    - 1 ton with Cowtown Sleeper.

    - Modified MDT with 3 rows of seats.

    - 1-ton van with an Automated Safety Hitch.
