Look up Magnuson-Moss Act. It specifically states a warranty cannot require service by a specific dealer.
Example:
In order to keep your new Plenum Brand Vacuum Cleaner warranty in effect, you must use genuine Plenum Brand Filter Bags. Failure to have scheduled maintenance performed, at your expense, by the Great American Maintenance Company, Inc., voids this warranty.
That is illegal and violates the Act.
Wonder how that will play out???
The "Act" is commonly referred to as the reason a car/truck dealer (and mfgr) can't deny warranty coverage due to after market equipment being added.
Unfortunately, warranties are routinely voided for same.
Here's how it "plays out":
You can take the dealer/mfg to court for violation of the Act - however, *you* better have *VERY* deep pockets with enough cash to fill the Grand Canyon several times over!!.:S
The dealer/mfgr has legal departments chock full of attorneys on the payroll (and/or retainer) ready to accommodate your "spending spree".
