Unbelievable that this conversation continues between Anderson / B&W fanatics.
FWIW - the Anderson is a great hitch, with the huge advantage of being able to remove from truck in 5 mins. flat.
FWIW - the B&W is a great hitch, with the disadvantage of being a BEAR to remove if need be (personally, my hitch has not left my truck in 5 years)
FWIW - One argument that continually comes up AGAINST the Anderson is the Un-ability to lock the hitch. What is only posted periodically by the individual that brings this up every time has about 6 padlocks on his B&W so obviously he may be a little over-sensitive in the security department. I personally have ZERO locks on my hitch, or bikes, kayaks, BBQ, etc. but perhaps we camp in different areas.
In my opinion you cannot go wrong with either the Anderson or the B&W. Each 'owner' will tell you his is better than the other and quote a hundred reasons why.
Now back to the usual bashing..... :)
I liked my AUH.
I like my B & W.
I've seen a few pictures where truly unknown circumstances (all things considered) caused a few AUH's to bend/fold. In no case did the 5er ever break loose, nor did the hitch itself ever break and cause a dangerous situation. The root cause (according to naysayers) is that the design is bad.
I've seen some pictures where the hitch head disconnected from the B & W base, allowing the 5er to come free and roll over. The root cause (according to the fan club) is that its designed to do this in order to prevent truck rollover.
So...2 different scenarios:
AUH - Hitch bends but doesn't break = BAD
B & W - Hitch breaks = GOOD
So...I would like B & W to provide me with the torsional force data so that I can know when to expect my hitch head to break free from the base. Because if its designed this way, then there must surely be some engineering involved to come up with this.
Where is the like button, they need one, great post.
I am a fan of the Andersen , for the one reason that I stated , getting it out of my way while away from home, if I didn't have that reason, then I would of stayed with my Reese slider, its a great hitch.
