We have a brand new Columbus fifth, it has a Residential refrigerator. Double doors on top of freezer. We strap the double doors close to the freezer handle. It has slide out shelves so we zipped tied all the shelves, which were pushing the doors open. We still have issues with the doors opening a little to set off the beeper warning doors are open. Anyone else have this problem?

We had the same problem with our boat when we lived aboard. Used Velcro (self stick) straps from the top of the fridge attached to tabs on the door. It was just enough to hold it shut along with the other measures we'd taken to keep the stuff inside from hitting the doors.

On our Maytag I have used a bungee cord wrapped around the handles 3 times.On our first outing I lost a gallon of milk and has not opened since.Winnebago does have drawer latches mounted on the top of both doors.

I have been using a left over roll of the blue painting tape. I just put @ 7 inch strip across my outside frig to keep it closed during travel. pulls off easy.

We have 2 OEM installed hidden suitcase latches like THESE on the top of our residential refrigerator doors completely out of sight.If you were not shown the latches you would not know they are there. They are operated by feel only as you would need a step stool to even see them.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. We zip tied the pull out shelves and then strap the door. That seem to do the job without drilling into the refrigerator with latches. We weren't too comfortable doing that.

Sounds like Russian practicality at work.

I recall during the Space Race, we spent over a million dollars to make a pen that astronauts could write with in space.

The Russians just used a pencil.

Sometimes we overthink these little things.

I didn't like the look of the straps, bungees, hooks and such on my wood work and the fridge. So I made my own latch. Its a clean, easy to use alternative that doesn't alter the aesthetics of the fridge or wood around it. A simple bracket screwed and centered between the 3 doors that a threaded rod screws into. A felt covered fender washer and knob are threaded on the other end of the rod. Simply screw it into place for travel and unscrew it upon arrival then stow it till time to go. ;)

May not be practical but it works.

Heavy bottles of water, milk, condiments in the door make it more prone to open on a rough road.

not sure how close your door handles are, but we had the same issue. used these baby gate locks..

it is keeping us closed.
