Check craigslist...lots of 5th wheel hitches for sale.

Wow...I just looked at it, didn't realize that the Patriot didn't have those pins. My dad has the Patriot as well. I'll have to see how he locks his. I know that he has 4 locks that he puts through the rails to lock the base down, I think he just uses a cable to lock the head to the base somehow.

I have 3 locks on my Companion. One on the jaw release handle, and 2 for the 2 pins that lock the head onto the base. I have the Companion slider so whoever wants my hitch will have to work really hard to get the base out.

While I very much agree with you, and the insurance aspect, it is also a matter of inconvenience when you are 2,000 miles from home and at the mercy of local suppliers. This is one of the reasons that I find this thread pertinent. Also Cummins12v98 has a specific model of hitch to fit his truck which may not be an "of the shelf part"

They are a pin, similar to the one that goes in a receiver hitch draw bar. You can add a small lock to the existing hole.

Second lock you see is on the jaw opening handle.

That hitch comes with the pins installed.

How is the head locked onto the base? I can see there is some kind of bar with 2 padlocks but can't make out the detail, did you buy it ? or make it?

I repeat, 5th wheel hitch thefts have to be planned, not "Ooh, that one looks nice, let's take that one". That means they come prepared to take the hitch. Those locks on Cummins12V98 will probably take less than a minute to defeat, all 5 of them.

Tabs (instead of the standard clips) that allow padlocks to lock down a hitch are available on Amazon for under $20 http://smile.amazon.com/Hitch-Plates-Fifth-Trailer-Hitches/dp/B00CFRERXM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1455390964&sr=8-3&keywords=5th+wheel+hitch+locks Maybe you could find them cheaper, and you'll still need to buy a set of padlocks, but these work.
