I don't mean to be such a downer, but let's be realistic about it. 5th wheel hitch theft has to be low return for the amount of effort involved, so they aren't going to be casual lift-and-run thieves.
I'll leave mine unlocked, unchained, and covered by my insurance. :)
While I very much agree with you, and the insurance aspect, it is also a matter of inconvenience when you are 2,000 miles from home and at the mercy of local suppliers. This is one of the reasons that I find this thread pertinent. Also Cummins12v98 has a specific model of hitch to fit his truck which may not be an "of the shelf part"
