First off, I think you did everything you could, and everything you should. Well done.
Second, I won't spend any time wondering what I would do. Every crisis will roll out at its own pace, and fortunately extremely rarely, and I see no point in what-ifs.
Besides, you've already provided the example of what to do. Sorry it had to happen, and I hate that it was a Ford, but thank you for sharing it with us all.
