I agree! My HH came new with LT tires (Uniroyal) which I ran 8 years. They still looked good but I replaced them with BFG"s which were recalled and replaced with Michelin LTX MS2's which are now 5 years old and doing fine.
Your mechanic has that belief that "if it is a trailer it has to have ST tires". That is bogus thinking IMO.
