My logic is why loose all the bed space and limit your self to what a STANDARD/LONG bed truck can do.
I am sure I will get the "I can do anything with my SHORT bed truck as a STANDARD bed truck" comments.
Regular 5er hitches are easy to install and remove. Sliders are much heavier.
I hade ONE SHORT bed truck and it will be the last. I like using my truck as a truck too much. No hitch problems.
And then there's the opposite opinion and experience/s..:S..-
I've had a long bed and now a short bed - never say never, but (for me) - I'll never have a long bed again!
And, yes I
*CAN* do everything I need or want to do with a short bed that I did with my long bed..;)
I prefer an automatic slider. It "knows" - and yes, it slides "as needed" - watched it in action many times. Without it, there's no doubt with my 5th, I would have a dinged cab and/or broken window.
Heavy?
You bet!..:(
My PR SuperGlide is about 300 lbs.
However,
I lift it with *ONE* finger!..;)
Back under my HF electric cable hoist, lift (push the "UP" button with one finger), drive out - then lower it to a furniture dolly - roll it wherever I like.
Takes all of five minutes.
Of course you can buy a *manual* slider - for a lot less than an auto slider.
Only glitch is the time you *should have* moved it to the rear position and didn't.
A friend neglected to do that on an early arrival to his workcamping job in Alaska. He had to back his 5th with a tight turn into his spot with snow/ice 'walls' on either side.
He admitted he knew better.....but it was *cold* outside - thought he could make it. Took out the back window - with a week wait for a replacement to arrive.
The choice of:
Short or Long bed
(and *if* Short bed)
- - an auto or manual slider- is up to
YOU...:W
Whatever rings *YOUR* chimes - like a choice of Chevy/GMC, Ford or Dodge with a
Cummins, LOL!
