The hitch is full forward. If you move the whole camper forward this should also move weight forward as well.
I don't believe you will shift much if any weight forward to the front axle. Some have trimmed the rear of the pin box at a 45 degree angle to remedy the pin box scuffing the box rails.
My self I wouldn't want to go to a shorter pin box as I can now lower my tail gate and hitch up. Wouldn't be able to do that with a shorter pin box as then the tail gate would hit the trailer.
