Side winder pin box

My wife and I just bought a used KZ sportster toy hauler.(36ft) It has a side winder pin box on it. The dealer that we bought it from said nothing to us about it . But as looked it up it said its for a short box truck . We have a 07 dodge ram 3500 long box . Will this be ok to use ? Or should I put a standard one back on? I'm just worried when we put our two full dress Harley's in the back that a wont have enough tongue weight ? I have a B&W companion hitch . Thanks
  • There is a way to override the Sidwinder to use as a conventional pin box.
There are 2 bolts that go through near the pivot, and then you remove the wedge.
Do not remove the wedge without insuring you have the bolts in place as you will make 2 pivot points active and it'll fold like a cheap suit.
See figure 18 on this link.
  • If the pin box is rated for the trailer weight, as it should be, it shouldnt make any difference except it will track more like a trailer which I believe is a good thing. '
  • It should also work as is, as long as you have the proper wedge for your hitch.
Check here to see if yours matches the profile of the B&W one.
Also KZ offered these as OEM so if factory installed the weight rating shouldn't be a concern.
  • Ok thanks for everyone's in put . Looks like I will call etrailer and see what they say and go from there! Thanks again
  • I just got an 08 with a SW/5thAB hitch and it's too old to be able to lock up the SW and I don't need it anyway. I'm going to peddle it and put something else on. Craig
