Slideout in another Slideout

we have been looking at some new 5th wheels and came across a unit by Gateway that has a slideout in another slideout. It looked like a gimmick but figured I would check it out anyway. I have to say it really increased the amount of space in the Bedroom and I liked it. That being said, I have to say I am wondering if there are any issues/concerns with these. I an looking for any current owners of a unit with this feature.

How long have these been out? What if any issues have you had with these? Any drawbacks with these (besides the increased possibility of a failure, I understand that)? I am looking for real world experience.

I am taking of a floorplan like this: Gateway 3230CK

Thanks.

  • We have a Big Country 3560SS w/ the slide-n-slide and ABSOLUTELY LOVE it !!! What's nice is that you don't have to extend the bed slide if space is tight. Owned it since May'17. Course Mama loves the fp in br too. As for problems, only thing we had was the outside trim got popped out w/ the whole slide in. Heartland took care of it w/o a problem.. If you do decide to get it. ADD slide toppers. Didn't see any Redwoods at Hershey show w/ the extra slide today. You have to make sure (at least on ours anyways) that the br door OPEN all the way before bringing in slide. If not, you'll have an OS moment. Also, ours weighs in at 14,000 dry, 16,000 fully loaded (15980 actually). A SRW 1 ton is what we had and around here in NY or NE, I wasn't too worried. Our vaykay to FL had me worried long before we left....ended up w/ a dually. Bottom line, 16,000 is dually territory.
  • I have a slide in slide in my “16” Redwood that I have had since July of “15” issue free.
We like to sit under the awning, and this really opens up the bedroom without having a slide sticking out up front where my main awning is.
  • Hartland Big Country has one 3310 QSCK

Took these photos in April 2017 at my local dealership.

That is one BIG honkin' camper though!
  • Redwood started using a slide in slide around 5 or so years ago in the bedroom. Haven't seen any major concerns on their forum. Might check there to see if any long term problems.
  • I just a soon not have the inner slide and have the outer slide go out all the way. Or a slide at the foot of the bed would really open things up.
  • We have a Landmark Oshkosh with the slide-in-slide in the bedroom and love the extra space in the bedroom. We've owned it for almost a year and no problems with the b/r slide.
