Slop in the hitch

I have a Trailer Saver BD3 and the jaws are tight with no play or slop. Where I do have slight movement is in in the rails. The pins have a slight bit of play that allows the hitch to rock creating a bumping. I wish I could find some larger pins like a 9/16 to replace the standard 1/2 inch pins. Just making sure that the clunking you have is in the head and not the pins.

Why is it on every question concerning any brand of hitch the obnoxious B&W crowd have to start their cheer leading bilge .

I am new to 5th wheelers. I have noticed that there is more slack in the hitch then I have seen in a pull trailer. I have a Reese 30032 hitch. Is this normal? Is there a way to adjust the slack in a hitch?

Nothing was indicated he was interested in what brand of hitch you have or what would someone recommend.

The OPs Reese hitch number 30032 is a old number. That number doesn't tell us anything about the hitch as Reese different jaw types which some make noise and other types didn't.
Reese also makes sliding hitches and non sliding hitches which can make noise .

We really need the OP to come back and inform us which Reese hitch he has and where he thinks the noise comes from.

Sorry but giving people information on this site is what it's all about. I am guessing you never have towed with a B&W?

I still thank the guy that strongly suggested I sell my sloppy rattling RBW and get a B&W. I trusted his advice and am so thankful I did.

If you don't like people promoting a product they have had awesome experience with just ignore them. I really don't think name calling will help make your point on anything.

I recommended that OP do a rebuild kit and see how that helps out, ie, new chucks, new springs...new buffer pads...... Worked wonders for both my last 5er hitches when I noticed more "chucking".

The OB&WC's answer to any RVing problem is "Throw money at it!!" They seem to feel that expensive is the only way to go no matter what the problem.

It does get tiring. The OP didn't ask about other people's hitches and probably doesn't care.

The problem with your reply is that the B&W is not expensive by any stretch of the imagination. I found them to be the best value on the market, and I am forever grateful to the person that nudged me in that direction. My hitch arount $379 shipped to my door and worth every single penny.

I gave an answer on what OP ought to do with his Reese from years of owning various Reese hitches...made a joke and was called names....very mature....If one purchases a rebuild kit, they'll still "throw some money at it", though it'll probably fix their issues, just as "I" suggested.....I at least gave several options...you, like JIMNLIN, opted to jump on someone, even though, you yourself didn't offer a suggestion as what OP could do to stop his hitch from chucking...:h

Found a picture of the OP's 30032 hitch which shows to be a non slider but couldn't find any specs on it as to jaw type/2 way vs 4 way pivot/etc.
Maybe the OP wasn't scared off 'cause he didn't own a certain brand hitch will come back with more info on his hitch/type of brake controller and how aggressive its set up or where he thinks his hitches slack is coming from.

I'm pretty sure that model is a fore and aft pivot only with no side to side pivot. Dual Jaw design. This design is pretty strong with the only real knock to it being the lack of side to side tilt. There are thousands of these hitches out there and come up for sale quite often on my local craigslist.

It could very well be that some of the springs have weakened over time or there could be some wear on the jaws. Either way, we need the op to post back some info to help make a constructive set of recommendations.

OP here is a set of jaws off of a new Reese hitch...do yours look similar, can you see if there is significant wear on the jaws that may be allowing the king pin to rattle around too much?



How about the hitch itself, when its pinned into the rails how much movement can you feel just by pushing on the hitch?
