I do like the idea of a slide out, they just make it so much more roomy inside. A 20' to 24' with 1 or 2 slide outs would be ideal.
I was just really surprised when I couldn't find many smaller 5ers and was wondering why that is.

Your F250 is just about perfect for all those fivers labels as half-ton. Our Cougar is 28'-9". There is at least one Cougar model slightly shorter than that.
But really, if you want to go below 24', best go with a pull-behind. You'll have a much better selection and get more bang for the buck.
