Small Family hauler- HELP!

We are looking at getting our first trailer and want a toy hauler. We want to stay on the smaller side since we'll be pulling it with a Jeep Grand Cherokee. It would need to sleep 2 adults and 2 kids and have room for a 4 person side by side.

Any recommendations? I have no idea what builders to stay away from, etc.

  • I think I've said it before, but here it is again. Wife has a Grand Cherokee. Nice little rig. I would not want to hook onto any toy hauler with it unless you call a 3 rail dirt bike trailer a toy hauler.
  • I'd say you're asking the impossible with that tow vehicle. 4 seaters are VERY big.
  • I agree with Dirtclods. I bought a new 23' Trailer went to hook up to our Chevy TrailBlazer, within all the specs, etc. But looking at it and towing home I knew right away I didn't like the feeling. Though my F150 wasn't as comfortable for the boys in the back, I felt a lot safer.
  • My I suggust before you go buy anything, do you know anyone with a Toy Hauler you can hook up and pull it around town first that would include up a grade and down one. What it ~ (say's) you can tow is not always true. Anyone else feel free to chime in.
  • Honda says it's 63ā€ wide, which seems narrow. I’m not sure what tires come with it the RZRs run 72ā€ so if you go aftermarket make sure you will have enough clearance front/sides. Keep in mind that the trailer has a total weight rating, so make sure the amount of the SxS, water, waste water, food, clothes etc. are inline.

Dune Sport over the years seems to be a mixed bag. Definitely not high end, but budget conscious trailers.
  • I've been looking at this site https://dunesport.com/build-toy-hauler-2.php?trailerid=131&type=Toy%20Hauler
  • The tow capacity is 7,200 and it says the payload is around 1,237 to 1,987lbs. We don't currently have a SxS but are looking at the PIONEER 1000-5.
  • At first glace I don't think it's a great idea with your setup, my gut says you're going to be better off getting a pick up. My concern is how much weight you will have behind you, and at that point what's in control you SUV or the trailer? While the GC has a good engine the wheelbase is still only around 114"

Which SxS do you have? Dimensions matter as does the weight. Which GC do you have?

Agree. Plus, check your Jeep payload rating. Toy haulers are different than regular TTs.
