I value my life and my wives too much to drive such a death trap.
A whole string of people stuck in the fifties! Size and weight are no protection. The smart is one of the safest cars on the road as far as passenger protection goes. You have a full roll cage in the safety cell, anti-lock brakes, stability control, 8 airbags, etc.
I wrecked one smart (yes it was my fault) and all that happened was that the air bag knocked off my glasses. The poor smart was totaled (mainly due to European content on a gray market model), but the doors opened and closed perfectly after a hard front end impact.

- larry_barnhartExplorerMy brother was involved in a head on crash on Highway 2 a year ago in October.
He and his 2 friends were hurt very badly but the driver of the Mercedes was dead in an instant. A smart car would have been a small dumb car for my brother. 2006 F-250 saved him from death. That's the way I see it.

Really? People die in all kinds of vehicles including pickups every day across N.A. This car is no worse than some and better than others. A blanket statement with no facts.
They look funny beside my truck but I'd have no issue driving it to work. - Cummins12V98Explorer IIII always want to put a sticker that says "not very" above the badge "smart car" !

It should be it is a tin can after all.
Not much tin if any. Mostly plastic and high end steel tridium cell.
Hmmm. That looks like a 451 model so lets say 1850 pounds. Probably about 2000 or more for the pin of the fifth wheel. It might be a one ton truck so I would guess he is close to 1000 pounds over. Then again, his combined weight on the truck is probably no more than many truck campers. Really gotta wonder about the framework he put in to support it though. At least some of the weight is on the front axle. Still scary looking. - Sprink-FitterExplorer

Afraid to have fun? There is nothing wrong with any of them, it is all how you drive or ride them. - Me_AgainExplorer III
