It all boils down to the loaded weight of the trailer and what the truck is rated to tow according to your owner's manual. So check the numbers on the trailer that shows what it would weigh if loaded to capacity. Or get the weight as it would come to the dealer and at least mentally add up everything you would add, including yourselves, the hitch, can goods, the whole works. A small 5th wheel we had would have been 7500 lbs. loaded to capacity so I estimated it would have been around 7000 as we loaded it, within the capacity of our half-ton chevy. So, it worked even in the Rocky Mountains but not with a lot of reserve. Personally, I would not load the truck to it's limit, but rather about 80% to allow for error, etc.
