sok II sideout kover w/ manual lock fabric replacement

Need a little assistance. I need to replace the slide out awning. I have the new fabric, however I can't figure out how to pin the roller. Looking at all the tech documents, it looks like the pin ente...

So if I move the front bracket forward and the rear bracket back, will I lose the tension on the spring? I tried the front bracket forward without taking the nuts off and still can't see a hole to place the pin through.
