FWIW, this is an excellent example why I hate Facebook. After spending some time trying to find the post about the trailer mishap, I've given up. Seems to be impossible to find a particular post, even if you posted on it. Anyone know how, I'd be grateful for a heads-up on how to go about it.
That is just 1 of the MANY reasons I deleted my account years ago....rhagfo wrote:
Yes I noticed the ACT II with butter in the first picture. ;)
At least the driver of the TV in the picture was nice enough to provide the Popcorn for the discussion.- fj12ryderExplorer IIIFWIW, this is an excellent example why I hate Facebook. - johntankExplorerThe odd thing about the king pin is that it does/did not extend up passed the plate of the pin box, should be 2/3 inches above the top of pin box plate where it should have had some type of reinforcement.
- wapiticountryExplorerLooking at both the damage to the truck and the damage to the fifth wheel I would conclude the Fiver tipped over while they rigs were either stationary or moving at a very low rate of speed. The damage to the truck is limited to a section of the side of the bed, not along the entire side as would be the case in a highway speed roll over and the fifth wheel shows very little damage that would normally occur in a roll over at normal trailering speeds. Best guess is the driver pulled off the elevated roadway and the fifth wheel leaned past the point where the center of gravity would maintain the rig in an upright position. Like someone else posted, at that time something was going to give and the hitch is the most likely point.
- Bird_FreakExplorer IIImagine the stress on that with no grease.
- OP, Would you get information from your source as to exactly what happen including speed and weather condition?
- MFLNomad IIHere is a pic of the inside of my pin box. Birds starting a home.:) Lots of rust inside, normal I suppose. In the pic, it looks like the pin reinforcement is welded to top of box, but has a pyramid steel weld surrounding pin at bottom. You are looking at pic, as though peering straight in from back side of box, and where it looks like pin reinforcement, the pyramid steel structure goes to top part of box.
Hard to get great pic, due to downward angle, but you can zoom, if interested.
Jerry - I'm wondering how he managed to right the trailer. Picture shows no people, emergency vehicles or anything around it.
Logic would dictate that if a wrecker was there for the task that they would have towed it away. - fj12ryderExplorer IIIIf I can find the post again, I'll ask about further details. But if it was driver error, he may be reluctant to admit to that. I'll get back with more info if I get some.
