I feel your pain.
Had my then new 20006 Dodge (1 month old) broken into in an attempt to steal it out of our driveway.
The thief simply took at screw driver... punched a whole in the passenger door skin just below the passenger door handle and by wiggling the screw driver was able to pop open the door lock. He was then positioned in the passenger seat... shoved the screw driver into the ignition key and proceeded to wreck the steering column in an attempt to unlock it.
Police figure it takes them less than 1 minute. Either he unlocks the steering column or abandons his effort and moves on to the next victim.
As the unit was never moved the insurance considered it vandalism vs. theft/attempted theft and I was stuck with paying my deductible.
LESSON LEARNED: After speaking to the Police Auto Theft Squad and questioning if I should invest in a security system answer was that in their experience using a CLUB on the steering wheel is enough of a deterrent to stop thieves from attempting in the first place.
FYI Only: In Canada number one ranking auto (2014, 2013, 2012) theft Ford Super Duty F350 and F250. Seems they are hot commodities to be shipped out of the country for 3rd world trade.
