Well, if the bed of the truck is supporting that 3,000 lb. hitch weight on just the relatively small footprint of the hitch, why are there no dents or impressions? There should be some dents caused by the runners, but there aren't any. Or is that sheet metal bed strong enough to support a ton and a half over a small area without deforming? Including stops and starts and the resulting weight transfer.
