Strange Radio

HI all
My Jenson radio occasionally turns itself on.
The 5er is in storage and has not been used for over 2 weeks. On Saturday the storage owners phoned me to say he could hear the radio from outside the trailer. We went over and sure enough the radio was on. The batteries are fully charged thanks to a 130w solar panel. Tapped into the radios permanent 12v memory line is a feed to a proactive tracker system which is monitored 24/7. This setup has been in service for over 3 years with no problems until recently.
I am not an electrical expert, so any thoughts would be welcome

  • Mine just started doing that. I get home from work and the radio is on. I'll have to check the remote batteries like posted.
  • The Jensen unit in our 2013 Surveyor did this twice in the middle of the night. It was easy to put a stop to once I figured out that the unit had an alarm function and disabeled the funtion.

Our Jenson does, on the right hand side of the radio, guess how I know this :B

X3 Embarrassing to have to admit.

    X4, wasn't a poltergeist after all!
  • Thanks for all the replies.
Seeing as the radio doesn't switch itself on at the same time each day, wouldn't that rule out alarm.
I have never seen a remote for the radio (5er bought new 2011).
Can't isolate batteries as this will activate tracker system, and will invalidate insurance, (don't ask, UK stupidity).
I think that just leaves a faulty unit, That'll be fun claiming from England.
Going to France in two weeks, will let you know how it goes.

  • 12v comes to the radio at two points, one for the station memory (tapped for your GPS locator). I'd put a switch in the other line - or replace the radio.
