So, could the smoke detector have fallen off while the slide was in, landing on the top of the retracted slide, then when you set it up it managed to squeeze through the seal and end up outside between the slideout awning and the slide roof? That seems to be the only thing I can think of. Or it was taken down and set on the roof the the retracted slide and then it went through the seal. Either way, glad you found it...
