strongarms

new to fifth wheeling, someone said to get JT Strongarms to help stabilize my fifth wheel. can someone tell me what these are?
  • X2 on the strong arms. Have used them for a full year, removed about 90% of the movement. Easy to install. Wife walks like she is stomping ants in the camper, and it takes away almost all of it. Only thing left is me cringing when I hear her coming.
  • We love our JT Strongarm stabilizers. They are easy to install & use and work great, would not be without them. :)
  • the softer/weaker manufactures make a camper's frame, the more stabilizers become necessary .... with a few exceptions, the old school days of heavy rigid/strong frames is all but a thing of the past .... the same can be seen in the growing number of campers for which 4 point auto leveling systems can't provide sufficient support so they require 6 point leveling systems .... based on use by some of the folks we camp with, JT's strong arm system is a pretty good one

  • The tubes are just 2 different size pipes. I'm not sure if he is the one that had a detailed write up on making them, but someone on the forum did. Also some have upgraded them with a "T" handle instead of using a wrench to tighten them.

where did you get the tubes?
  • Built my own. $40.00. Also built two more for front to back along with a rear one. Less than $100.00 for all.
  • I personally prefer the Winfield units in conjunction with rotochoks. The stabilizers like the strong arms use a single set screw to hold the forces that are swaying the trailer, Winfield's, on the other hand, use a threaded rod to put pressure on the bar and is much stiffer. IMO, of course.

In looking at all these wonderful aftermarket products and the marketing they have, always realize they can't repeal the laws of physics. It's like the little tripod stabs trying to retard the sway of a 5er without any mechanical advantage or a decent angle to resist the trailer movement.

    Just saying.
