Great lesson to learn early on! Tail-swing is a beast (and is exacerbated by the monstrous rear overhang on some rigs). Some spots require hard angles to get it in, others you have to finesse the tail as you noted here. The same lesson will apply at campgrounds, gas stations, etc... ALWAYS be aware of your tail-swing - and don't be afraid to have your co-pilot out spotting the blind side of that swing (my wife does it all the time).
