I had problems just like you, that connecting rod kept ovaling (is that a word?) out the hole at the end and breaking. Then the gearbox start making noise and it wouldn't always lift or retract. Replaced the legs with Bulldog legs and couldn't be happier. Faster operation and they don't sound strained all the time.
I'll third that, replaced with the Bulldog and not had an issue, they work great. It is NOT cheap though and was a fair amount of work but in the end it was well worth it. Wish I knew what do do with the old landing gear though, even have two motors since that was the first attempted fix. Anyone need parts they're welcome to it all, just pick up or pay for shipping.
