Surge Protect

I know this has been discussed at great length in the past. Decided to stick to Fifth Wheel section since we are ONE.
Asking for opinions: We plan to get Progressive Industries Surge Protect thing. There are several options:
SSP50 Smart Surge Surge Protector
EMS-HW50C Surge Protection hardwired unit w/remote display
EMS-LCHW50 Surge Protection hardwired unit (display on unit) If the unit is placed down in some cabinet like behind the converter, how can you see the display?
We plan to call the company and ask more questions tomorrow.
Surge Protector or Surge Protection? http://www.progressiveindustries.net/

Thanks
  • Hard wire would be nice. However I went with portable. I always use it, as you never know when something might happen. 'where we camp I really don't worry about theft so portable works fine.

  • HW50C with remote since 2005. Now in second rig and never cut any existing wires, just rerouted them. I used a longer data cable for the remote. Note: this is a basic data cable which is like a phone cable except for 2 wires reversed. It was $2 including shipping on ebay - Not a typo.

That's the one we went with. Since the unit needs to be in the power line it was not convenient to get to. Behind the wall in the "basement" which puts it behind/under the coat closet with all the other controls, gages, etc. So we mounted the display in the closet with all the other displays.

Same unit. Has worked great for the 2 years we have had it. Recommended for units with many electrical devices that need protection.

We do have our display unit in a place where we can easily monitor usage as we turn on devices. Important when your hooked up to 30amp or less.
