Surge Protectors or not??

Do it... if it saves you just once it was worth it. But not just surge protection but also low voltage, high voltage, reverse polarity etc.

I've never had one. Have not missed it.

It goes between the power pedestal and your trailer shore power cord. This is what I use for 30 amp needs.

I know what you're saying. I am an overly cautious kind of guy. Must be from my motorcycling days.

The first time you have to replace an AC unit due to low voltage damage you will wish you had one. I recommend this company, http://www.progressiveindustries.net/ , They offer a lifetime warranty and have excellent customer support. I would suggest spend a little more and get the EMS series which protects from surges, over voltage, under voltage, miswired connection, and does a checkout of the power available before it is ever applied to the RV. If you plug in and there is a problem with power there will be no power to the RV that could damage it. Especially nice if you have 50A service and the pole has a bad neutral which will put 240v on the 120 circuits. It won't turn on.

Some like the portable, mine is hardwired. That way if there is a problem at the pole, with my power cord, or the connection on the side of the RV it won't turn on.

Tie a knot in a power cord. That is a surge protector.

Why do you assume maybe 15 different items are same? Expression 'surge protector' (for RVs) has little relationship to a same expression for homes. And is completely different from the expression that applies to a USB port.

He said you need a magic box. So that proves you need a magic box? Even a knot in a wire does surge protection. Do you really need that?

That need is not being cautious. It demonstrates how easily scams can be promoted.

Surge protection per-se is less necessary than the voltage protection and verification the wiring is correct with proper polarity and ground.

We frequently get posts of people plugging into 240v and burning stuff up, hot skin from reverse polarity and bad ground. And these are not just at campsites... they are also right at home or a buddy's house where you think all is safe. Also plenty of posts with low voltage suspected when the air conditioner quits.

I hear this but believe it is 90+% hype to sell a new gadget.

The reason I say this is I have never heard a 1st person story about any RV Camp with reversed polarity, low voltage, etc.

Does anyone have a 1st person story about "bad" electricity at a RV park? With the internet today I don't see how a RV park could stay in business if they had such issues.
