- wildcat337ExplorerThanks for all the help. Looks like I will still have to slide hitch.
- bpoundsNomadStill waiting for the OP to respond. He got plenty of good suggestions. Don't know if he has seen them.

The downside to losing the factory gate is I lose my Grandson step and the ability to lock down the contents with my Roll-N-Lock.
Like them or not a fifth wheel tailgate painted the same color as your tow vehicle looks pretty darn good.As some people have said in the past "sooner or later you will own one".
Not true!
Custom Flow makes louvered V tailgates with filler and lock.

OK, partially not true. I don't see a step :)
Realistically I doubt the locking bar on my Roll-n-lock would fit that gate and fill. - rhagfoExplorer III

If it is only a couple of inches, check to see if you can adjust the hitch, there should be a series of mounting holes that will move the hitch forward or back. If it is more than a couple of inches the V notch tailgate would probably the way to go.

- Mile_HighExplorerI thought about this for a minute - are you hitching with the slider in the "tow" mode? If so, how come? Just slide the hitch back to connect, then move it forward. (in retrospect I think it was already mentioned)
I did it that way for years because my tailgate would hit the camper unless I was exactly aligned, and even then you couldn't drop a dime between the gate and the camper (prior rig) - rhagfoExplorer III

You could go with a 5er tailgate or remove yours.
X3 or so, got all of mine from Craigslist, also sold my old ones there.
Currently have a custom flow designed for my 01 Ram $100 from Craigslist. - OaklevelExplorerTaking off the tailgate or a V tailgate is probably your best answer.
I have had two eight foot bed trucks & two different fifth wheel campers with a fixed hitch and the tailgate down backing straight in I have had plenty of room between the tailgate & the trailer.
