Besides the potential for denting/damaging your factory TG - *unless* you have a good locking device......
Tailgates are *BIG business*!!
Impossible to trace, easy to "fence" to unscrupulous body shops and salvage yards - and..."gone in 20 seconds!!..:D
Check the cost of a replacement.. (Yikes!)..:R
Your insurance will cover the loss....what's your deductible?
Lots of folks dent Tgates by methods *other than* hitching a 5th wheel.
Theft also provides a viscous cycle!
Owner that had his TG stolen needs another!
With a removable/replacable "V" - my TG and folding bed cover has all the "out-of-sight, out-of-mind features the stock gate has.
I have a very stout & very inexpensive "V" gate from Northern Tool.
All steel - but still lighter than the factory TG.
With my short bed, I often haul lumber(?) resting in the notch.
Works great - bonus is: If you take your TG off, and drop a corner on the ground = no harm, no foul..:C
Downside = doesn't look as beautiful as the factory tailgate.
