Talladega Fall 2018

I am fortunate enough to get to go and cook for a few race teams and get to see the infield things a lot... as others have said, if u have kids then better to stay outside in a family style area. if u want to party then get inside and walk down Talladega blvd,,,,,, be warned, if u can think it, they are doing it.... again.... if u can think it they are doing it but then stuff is going on u probably wouldn't think of too! lol

My twin brother and I have a campsite on the back stretch of Michigan Speedway for the August race. I was able to get a spot closest to the track, row AA.

I've never camped there but I've been to races a few times. My favorite seats were on the back stretch closest to turn 2 about half way up. They come out of the banking at eye level, and then down the back stretch. Back then they were still passing in the grass. Really cool to see a car in the grass at 200mph.

From some friends who go to PIR for both races every year, they always recommend going with at least one other person, or group, who's been before, at least for the first time or two. That way, you have familiar faces around to show you the ropes, and not make a total fool of yourself, or any more than the beverages do. :B

Camped at dega many times. Agreed you wanna sit up high if you have any intentions of watching the race. No matter where you camp, the party is not hard to find. We always stay in the free campgrounds. West c and geico south are really nice.

Always stayed in West-C, left turn just past hall of fame museum.
Take everything you need. Generator gas is like gold. One guy filled the back of his toy-hauler with cases of beer and made a killing selling it to people that were out.
For the Sunday race I used to arrive mid-afternoon on Saturday with the traffic light, wait to depart on Monday morning about 0900 after the early risers got out.
I did have a small cooler go missing one time out of 5 trips there.
Vendors do come around 2 times per day selling ice.
I always planned well and never ran out of anything. People do not think and run out of either beer or gas and try to purchase from you, I was offered 50 dollars for a 5 gallon can of gas late on Sunday afternoon after the race, almost took it but did not want to run out myself overnight.
It will be loud and wild.
There is nothing else like it that is for sure.

I would suggest staying out side the track, and getting the HIGHEST seats possible. You won't see much from the infield, and you won't see much from the first 10 or 15 rows. You need to be UP, Way up. No lower than 20th, and at Dega, that is pretty low.

An infield camping space is EXPENSIVE and does NOT include grandstand seating tickets. Not a good place to watch the race, in my opinion.

For most of the spaces on the outside of the track, you need to be fully self contained; no hookups. But there are bathrooms and showers.

If you wait until the last minute to make arrangements, it will almost be a guaranteed failure.

We stayed about 2 mi. from the track, a place called "Talladega Taz" Small C/G. had full hook-ups, its not much to look at, but it served the purpose, and they charged about $5.00 a head to take you to the track and the same to bring you back. Like I said, not much to look at just a place to park, they do have restrooms on site. Good Luck and Happy Camping !! Enjoy the race !!
