temp control in the toy hauler garage for kids

So far our conclusion is that a Grand Design Momentum 328m or 351m, would be perfect for our needs. The kids can sleep in the garage since we don't really have "toys" right now. The TH has the extra gas tank on board for the generator. The kids are at the back of the trailer while we are at the front so there's some privacy for us. And the thing carries 157 gal of fresh water with big grey and black tanks.

GD has the option of 3 AC units so the garage could be cooled. But I think the energy management system will only allow 2 of the 3 units to run concurrently if I'm not mistaken.

Those of you with toy haulers, does the garage ever get too hot or cold for the kids compared to the temperature inside the "main" part of the trailer?
  • A 3rd A/C will take care of the summer heat. A space heater can be used to supplement the heat when it's cold out. (assuming you have hook ups)
If not be prepared to bundle up. In general the unit and ducts are not insulated well enough to keep the rear as warm as the rest of the unit. My experience has been the heat has cooled by the time it reaches the rear of the trailer
  • My Voltage has 3 a/c's. We can run all three and all three areas stay at the temperature we set for it as each area has it's own temp sensor. The front bedroom and main cabin share duct work so when the main a/c is on it's also cooling the bedroom. All three fans work at the same time but the management system switches the compressors on and off as needed. You really don't notice which two compressors are on at the same time. At night we don't like the bedroom a/c working due to the noise. We work the main cabin and garage and since the main cabin is fully ducted it also cools the master bedroom.
  • Yes, both ends of the extreme. If I had the option of a third AC in the garage when we bought our Cyclone, I definitely would have went for it. In the winter, if power is available, we'll use a small portable heater. No way to avoid the heat other than maybe a fan. We don't boondock in the extreme heat of the summer but during winter, we just bring extra blankets and bundle up.
  • We just bought a new to us toy hauler this year (Raptor 310TS). It does NOT have a/c in garage. We used it during the hot months of summer and kept doors closed when we had dirt bikes/tools inside. Yes, it got hot. That said, we've it several times for sleeping and dinette. If we left door open and had a fan, it would cool it from the living area.

I'd get 3rd a/c if I were you. That should work great.
PS: We looked at both GD models you're looking at. They were our top choice for new.
