Texas trip

So we got our route planned out for our Texas trip to see the in laws. Oxnard Ca to Grand Canyon then off to New Mexico to see the Pueblos. From the Pueblos to Carlsbad New Mexico to see the Caverns then down to New Braunfels Tx. On the way back we are stopping in at Alomogordo New Mexico to check out White Sands. Then to AZ and back Home.

I live in Texas, and I can't imagine visiting this state during the summer. It is just to hot. We usually try to leave for at least a month, to Colorado or somewhere cool. Also, the sand dunes are an beautiful site, hope you are planning on seeing they at daybreak, again because the sand gets really hot.

Hope you have a great trip

Yeah I know it's going to be hot but this trip is overdue for us. All the Inlaws are there and we have new nieces and nephews to meet. We live right down the street from the beach here so nice but we have to change it up a bit. We will be in Big Sur Ca a week before we leave to TX.
  • I just read your post again, and notice you are visiting New Braunfels Tx. One thing we like to do down there in the summer, is tube down the river. One of the places is called the Horseshoe Loop (Horseshoe Loop). We also like Schlitterblog.com , its a really unique water park.

Since you are stopping for Carlsbad Caverns you should at least drive the 45 or so miles down the road and stop at the Guadalupe Mountains NP Visitor center and perhaps walk thru the Frijole Ranch site. Guadalupe Peak is the highest point in TX and quite impressive to see.

The general consensus for camping near Carlsbad is the KOA north of town or perhaps Brantley Lake SP. There are other in the area but not that great.

Road conditions in the area are good but it is HOT, Highs 100+ expected all this week.

Yeah we are staying at Carlsbad Koa.

I guess you don't have a question. So have a good trip.
PS: While at the puebloes, ask a lot of question. They are unbelieveable.
Also go see Kit Carson's home in Taos.

I posted it for this reason. Those who have traveled these places can offer some other type of info I may need along the way. Thanks. We are stoked.
