I find the Thetford Aqua Magic Style II to be a very troublesome toilet. I have received dozens of calls with the complaint being the pedal does not return to the full up position and the water continues to run. I have only limited success replacing the water valve. Within a few weeks or months I get called back out to work on it again. My suggestion is to replace this toilet with a Thetford Aqua Magic Style Plus with the center pedal flush and the china bowl. This one is about $75 to $100 more but is a much better toilet. Make sure you have enough room behind the existing toilet because the Thetford Aqua Magic Style Plus takes a little more room. If you can't do this, don't fix the one you have, replace it with a new one.
X2. I am on my 4th Style II in 7 years full time. One flood as described above caused the first replacement. As a habit now I always pull up on the flush pedal with my toe after each flush. I would have upgraded to the Style Plus, but I don't have enough room behind it at the top. I found a Style II on sale earlier this year and bought it for when the current one ***** out (pun intended). This failure will be when, not if. The Style II is not a high quality item IMHO, but it does have a china bowl.
