Timbrens or Air Bags

In getting my new to me truck ready for towing I want to add Timbrens or a rear air bag suspension system.

I had Timbrens on my old truck but I do think it made it ride a little rough.

What are your recommendations and why? Also best place to purchase please.

My truck is a 2013 Chevy Silverado 2500HD LTZ Diesel

Also I replaced the rear shackles to lower the rear 2 inches to gain bed rail clearance.

Thanks!
  • Timbrens working well for me in my 1/2 ton. Due to low cost and ease of installation, if available for my next truck, I will go with them again.
  • I've had them on 2 vehicles & would never put them on again. Terrible ride & they actually reduce suspension travel.
  • I removed the 2" drop shackles on my truck, they set me to close to the jounce bumper in my Air Lift springs. These late model trucks are very hard to get a level stance low enough to tow a fifth wheel. I prefer air bags due to the ability to adjust them, but I will never install Drop Shackles with Air Lift Ultimate system again (rough ride on bumps).
  • I've had air bags on 3 different trucks. I really like their adjustability.
I can have a stock ride when empty, add some air for light loads, add more air for heavy loads, etc.
I had a truck camper that was heavier on one side than the other. I used to run the air bags at different pressures to compensate. You can't do that with Timbrens.
  • I had Airlift Loadlifter 5000 Ultimates with the WirelessAir controller installed this summer. Love it
  • I tried Timbrens on my previous 2500HD, quickly took them off and installed air bags instead. I did not like how the suspension response changed running solo. On smooth roads the Timbrens were not active just like normal. But as road conditions changed, suspension response became very unpredictable as one or the other or both Timbrens were active over some of the suspension travel. Air bags are always an active suspension component and you get to adjust the air pressure to suit the load, road and your driving preference.
