Time for new tires - Help

Well it's time to do the necessary evil of purchasing new tires. The tires I currently have will be 5 years old this November and I've already had to replace one tire because of a broken belt and discovered today that I have another tire with a broken belt The tires that I currently have are Tomax ST235/80r16. I would like to try a different brand of tire. Also what about LT tires. That is what is on my truck and they are a Michelin MX2 which is a 10 ply tire. Would those work or should I stick with a ST tire. Just looking for some guidance - this is certainly not my area of expertice. Thanks in advance !!!!!

  • Get the popcorn out! This is gonna be good.

Seriously - Since you have 16 inch rims, you can use either ST or LT tires. I've had horrendous luck with ST tires in the past, but my 2014 FW has ST tires and they've already got 9,500 miles on them with zero problems. There are hundreds of posts on this forum you can research and try to narrow your decision down.

One constant is that tires made in China have a horrible reputation that is probably well deserved.

Personally, when it's time to change my tires, I'm most likely going to use LT tires made someplace other than China.

    Good luck.
  • I have been using LT's on our trailer for 12 years. It came with the LT's on it. Had several blowouts with the original Goodyear Wranglers. After replacing several using the Wrangler's I switched to Michelin MX2 in LT's and haven't had a single problem in over 30,000 miles.
