Sorry, Charlie, (I couldn't resist!) for your troubles.
But they are correct about the warranty part of things.
But let's get practical for a moment. How much damage did the failure cause? Is it worth taking it to the next level? There are ways of getting some amount of restitution, but you have to be willing to work for it.
As for now DO NOT THROW THE TIRE AWAY!!!
