Tire info.

One of my tires started to separate on our Coachman after 9 years. So I went shopping for new ones, this is what I discovered. The tires sold with most 5ers. are load range "D" cheep 8 ply tires. What should be on them are load range "E" 10 ply tires. The more stuff you put inside the more weight, means better tires are needed. Mine were ST225/75R15. Everyone quoted me prices on "D" you need to ask for "E". The most expensive priced were Camping World $148.00 each plus mounting and balancing, sails man did not know where they were made. Firestone wanted $132.oo plus mounting and balancing, made in Japan. COSTCO $ 148.00 each including Mounting and balancing, made in the USA. I also priced from some local tire stores, they were a lot cheeper, from $70.00 to 119.00 each, all were made in China. COSTCO, Camping World, and firestone, are all over the Country, We ended up buying from COSTCO part for locations and part made in US. Thats my story and i'm sticking to it.....

  • The COSTCO tires are Greenball. Never hereof them, but made in USA. We will take metal valve stems for the new tires. You have to take the rims to them, they won't mount them an the 5er. The old tires are Maxxis....
  • Definitely got your money's worth at 9 years and doubly blessed that the tire separation started but you caught it before it caused any problems. Our fifth wheel came standard with LR E 10 Ply and when we replaced them recently due to age and tire separation on one, that caused damage, it was replaced with the same. Never had to ask for them. We got a good warranty too. What we didn't know was the on the original, they had rubber valve stems. When the tire shop put on the new ones, they specifically put on metal valve stems.

Glad you made a good decision and are sticking with it. It's your rig and making the best decision is important.

    Good call. What brand?
  • What brand did you purchase?
I thought I heard somewhere Costco won't install a tire with a different rating then your placard states. So, If your 5er states a load range D that is what they install?
  • At 9 years you really got your money's worth, and were really pushing your luck. Most replace at around 5, maybe 6. LR E was a good call, and made in USA hopefully insures some level of quality. What brand are they?
