Tire PSI when hot

Looking to hear what psi's you are seeing on hot tires. I run 100 psi cold in my Goodyear g614 tires. Our camper was originally fitted with load range E tirs at 80psi but after too many blow outs, we upgraded to better tires and haven't looked back since. When running, I'm seeing Psi about 120 to 125 or about 20ish more when hot. This is with a TPMS.

So what are your psi deltas cold to hot?
  • My 245/70/19.5 go from 100 psi cold to 120 psi hot every trip. I see no problem with the psi numbers you describe. Happy trails
  • Ours usually gets close to road temp by the TST TPMS and my Harbor Freight non contact temperature device https://www.harborfreight.com/hand-tools/thermometers/non-contact-infrared-thermometer-with-laser-targeting-69465.html
  • I see nearly 20 degree's of difference. Your reading are normal.
  • I set my G614s to 100# COLD before each travel day.

Don't know or care what PSI increases to during travel.

I check tire thread/hub temps with a infrared gun each time we stop.....potty/rest---lunch break etc.
Only LOOKING for an 'outlier'---one that is hotter then rest vs actual temps

PSI/Temp increases are depending on ambient air temps, asphalt/rod surface temps, braking, speed, load, sunny side/shaded side etc and vary daily.
So it is about 'trends' and the 'odd' one

So to clarify....looking at tire psi not temp.

Unless you see a low tire when hot,, the temp will rise the pressure. DO not worry about it.

ALWAYS check your tires in the AM when the temps are cool. AND all tires should read the same within 2-3 pounds. THAT IS ALL.
  • In my area where the morning to afternoon temps vary quite a bit, My tires start out at 110 in the morning and often show mid to upper 120's when I'm driving down the road in the afternoon. If one side is getting more sun than the other for long periods of time it will often show 5 to 8 PSI more pressure than the shaded side. If I don't depart until afternoon, the PSI will sometimes be up over 120 prior to starting just from heating of the day.
  • I appreciate the replies. My TPMS is set to alarm at 20% above the baseline so at 100 psi, it alarms at 120ish. Since I'm hitting that 20%, I'm going to change it back to the default 25% and see how it goes from there.
  • I use the rule of thumb that the tire pressure will rise 1 psi for each 10 deg F of air temperature.
  • With my G614's starting out with 110 I will see temps up to 145 on the sunny side and upper 130's on the shaded side with temps outside in the 80-90 range, hubs usually run around 120-125.
