- downtheroadExplorerNot sure what the "official" word is on this. We have never rotated tires on any of our trailers.
We do have them balanced when we replaced them.
Watch for any unusual or uneven wear. - ReneeGExplorerWe take our FW to get our tires inspected by the business that we originally purchased them from and they don't rotate them. They said it is because they are not under the same use and load as daily drivers or regular tires. What they do is take them off, inspect them, do a free spin test to check for the tire wearing or being uneven. The Free Spin Test is recommended by the Tire Guy - Roger Marble.
- BB_TXNomadHave never rotated. Something over 22,000 miles on current tires and no detectable wear difference in any of them. Since there is no steer axle, and the axles are only about 4' apart, the wear pattern should be about the same across all tires on a trailer.
- 3oaksExplorerI rotate my TT tires once a year when I do my annual wheel inspection. We average 4-6 thousand miles per camping season.
I rotate ours because I have never had a trail where the four wheels were in perfect alignment. Plus road crowns, and shoulder debris and roughness can cause uneven tire wear. That way I get all tires to wear equally and 5-6 years of service from a set of tires.
If I ever had severe abnormal tire wear I would determine cause and get the issue corrected. Never had that problem yet.
Everyone has their own theory whether to rotate trailer tires or not and how often. :@ - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIIf they look good do nothing. Wear issues then get the problem fixed.
- OaklevelExplorerNever................unless you put alot of miles on the trailer......
35 years own three two axle trailers have never rotated tires always age out before any serious wear. - kennethwoosterExplorerReally see no reason to rotate tires. Besides 5th wheel trailers I've had a lot of stock trailers as well as flat bed trailers for moving equipment. Never had a need to rotate.
- SabreCanuckExplorerI generally rotate every couple of years, depending on miles...
I see I'm on the smaller majority here and don't know WHY I do it, but i always have and it works for me, so.....
Carry on. - The steering, braking, turning, acceleration are the same... no need to rotate.
All these factors are different on the tow vehicle and so rotation can extend tread life.
As noted previously it is easier to know where an alignment issue is if the tires are left in place. - Jack_Diane_FreeExplorerNo rotation on past 6 trailers over the years with no problems. Current trailer have had for 5 years and no rotation, no problems with wear. Not something personally from my experience is required.
