I have the TAs on my 5th wheel which weights 12500, but the pin weight is 2600. So that leaves 9900 on the trailer axles. The tires at 80psi are rated at 3045lbs so with 4 of them that equates to 12180lbs. Plus they are rated for 99mph where ST tires are rated for 65mph. So I cruise at 65 and feel much more safe. Very happy with these tires.
OK, but even thought they are rated for 12K+ should we assume fewer failures at 9900? What about at 7000 lbs, which is pretty close to the weight of most of our tow vehicles?
I like the post above that suggest we should have better data on the first 3 years of tire life. Again, just using the T/A as an example, 3 years ago the T/A had little if any complaints. Recently, and after a recall, complaints have surfaced. It would be great to know specifics about the use of these tires that have failed.
I fully agree that the Chinese tires that are physically inferior are expected to have more failures regardless of the application. I also agree that premium tires like the Michelin Rib are expected to have much fewer failures. But, what about the tires in between these ends of the spectrum? Lets face it, we got a lot of folks out there that don't hang out on these forums and obsess over their tires, and make it from campground to campground without a problem.
