Tire failure rates are available but not released to the public. Organizations like Consumer Reports provides all kind of data of failure rates/ dependability/safety/durability for many products even if the manufacturers don't care to provide that data.
Yes, but bet we will never know the specifics, just if the tire failed or not. Was the tire overloaded? Was it ran at a weight level way below it's rating. Was it ran at correct inflation?
Personally I've run Michelins on all my vehicles for the last 40 years. In the early 90's I had several failures on my Suburban. None since then on other vehicles. This tells me that occasionally even the best manufacturers may have a bad run of tires. This even adds another factor to the equation.
