OK, 10 ply "rated". Nothing is at it seems any more!
On the side wall:
Tread 4 plys+2 ply steel+2 ply polyester sidewall 2 ply, which according to the "new math", equals 10 ply! So, if I read this correct, the tread is only 8 plys.
All tires were discussing have just 2 carcass (sidewall) plies. Depending on those two ply thickness/strength gives the tire its load range rating.
Now the tire makers adds 2 plies of a poly and 2 plies of steel under the tread = 6 plies total under the tires tread.
