Hitch wt= 1800# As a follow up, Should I dump the ST tires, and get the LT tires? I'm leaning toward a combo air pressure and ST tire selection s a probabal cause.
Reading between the lines here but your trailer may have 5.2k or 6k axles. Just some ideas........
LT235/85-16E tires have 3042 lb capacity 31.7" diameter
LT245/75-16E tires have 3042 lb capacity 30.3" diameter. Both sizes good for 6k axles.
LT225/75-16 E at 2680 lb 29.2" diameter
LT215/85-16E at 2680 lbs at 30.3" diameter. Both work on 5.2k lb axles.
Be sure and check wheel well clearance issues....something we can't do.
LT tires may not equal the load capacity of OEM tires but they DO NOT have to when replacement times come.....Just use a tire that meets the axle ratings with a good 10-15%b reserve capacity. Covers any legal issues or theories thought up by a rv website tire cop.
LT tires come in a poly carcass tire or all steel ply carcass. Both can give you 40k-60k miles of trouble free service if we treat them right.
ST tires have been improved with the new gen Providers from Taskmaster that have been around mostly regional service trailer industry since the '10-'11 era. One rv mfg uses them as OEM tires.
Made in the USA Goodyear Endurance has been out just over a year and are popular. Time and 40+k miles will tell tell how they work.
Another new gen just out over a year is Carlisle HD. No complaints so far but another only time and miles will tell their story.
These three ST class tires are the new gen 75-81 mph speed rated tires with the nylon caps in all sizes.
