Chinese tires on 2010 Raptor 300MP after 2800 miles.


While at the Atlanta RV Show this past spring, I was in a conversation with a Fuzion rep that stated the reason they have these Chinese tires is that no larger company will commit to the volume of tires that the camper industry needs. He stated that GY, Michelin etc. dedicate their tire manufacturing schedules to producing OEM tires for automobiles and not RV's. He said that their are too many load range applications and too many trailers being manufactured to keep a steady flow of tires coming to them. But the Chinese tires are readily available for them to use. I called 'BS' and told him they were just cheaper to buy. To that he said, "they are cheaper to buy, but if we bought more expensive tires, we would pass the cost on the consumer and have a better reputation in that regard. However the tires just aren't available". Take from it what you will. I replaced my PowerKings after 400 miles with GY G614s and carry two of the originals as spares. Surely they will work for that:B

Well there he is in living color even, tire company people always blame failures on the users and never on their tires! At least Goodyear...... well you know, maybe they are different from the rest!

Keep in mind this is a newish trailer and the damage could have been down on the way to the dealer and continued while at the dealership.

Did you ever have to jack your trailer around in an 90 degree turn or better???
Either way dump the ST's and go with either LT tires or if you're too heavy a G rated tire.... Sure a tire company may repair the side of your trailer after one blows out but do you really want to go thru the hassle....

Totally agree. It's not likely that you can upgrade one tire rating. Your rims are probably maxed out psi or weigh-wise.

I upgraded to Maxxis from my china-bombs. I do not like changing tire on the shoulder of an interstate. Also, the damage that a blown tire can do $$$$.

Why would you want to replace the blown crappy tires with more of the same???????

Contact member Fasteagle. He I believe he works for Power King maker of Tow Max tires and he should be help you with your problem. I think he regularly gets free replacements so he should be able help a fellow member of RV.net. Even though it is most likely your fault for not maintaining them correctly, he should be able to help make your case with Power King. Tow Max recently added a Nylon cap similar to what Goodyear added to the Goodyear Marathon years ago so that they are more reliable, so replacements should last twice as long. Good luck!

Now, you are probably asking yourself, "Why are they allowed to even put tires like this on RV's at all?"

Lots of us have been asking that very question for a very long time.

Replacing my Chinese tires with Maxxis. Premature failures have me concerned. Failure at 3000 miles is not normal.
