Tread depth isn't the end-all; overall quality construction is much more important.  With rare exceptions, tires will "age out" well before wearing out.  IMO, tread depth is close to the bottom in importance.  I only tow a couple thousand miles a year, so wear is minimal.  Living in AZ, I almost never tow in rain, where tread depth =might= have an effect.
