Tires for the Toy Hauler

Ok, my 05 Weekend Warrior needs tires. My current tires are in good shape, but 2 are over 4 years old, and the other 5 are just about 4 years.

The local Americas Tire has Hartland ST tires, can order Carlisle. But I have also been told to get LT tires. So if I change to LT, what would work current are ST 225/75R15. I think LT only come in 235, could I fit 235s on my triple axle trailer without rubbing?
  • heres the rims you want....16" WW wheels

These are the right offset, and with 225/75/16LT tires they will fit perfect with no clearance issues.
I did a lot of research on fitment and load capacity and price, the falken wildpeak 225/75/16E HT is the best bang for the buck, our trailers came with D tires.

    225/75/15 d x 6 = 15,240 load cap
    225/75/15 e x 6 = 16,980 load cap
    225/75/16e LT x 6 = 16,080 load cap

    225/75/15 diameter is 28.3"
225/75/16 diameter is 29" tread width is almost identical.
So no problem with rubbing anywhere and LT tires are much better built and rated much more conservitivly than ST's, the best of the best tires are the Michelin XPS and bridgestone durvais but about 250.00 each, the falkens are about 1/2 the price and 60k warranty.
  • I just went through this on my O4 fs3000, I ordered some 16" WW rims and they were on backorder, I found that 225/75/16E LT tires were the ticket and still are within load capacity. I has maxxis 8008's but after 4 years had one blow. I had great luck with the Westlake tires that came on the trailer when I bought it, turns out they now have the same nylon cap as the maxxis, I bought my 6 here on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-ST-225-75R15-WESTLAKE-RADIAL-TIRES-10-P-R-NEW-TRAILER-SIX-TIRE-SET-/291578074332?hash=item43e36854dc&vxp=mtr

my tires came and two days later my new 16" rims showed up that were 2 months backordered.....so maybe next year I will do the swap. The ebay deal is smokin, free shipping, no sales tax (unless your in GA)

I recommend GoodYear G614's. I have them on my Mobile Suites and will be purchasing 7 more before next spring. Great tires. Keep them at max PSI and trouble free trips...

That is what I run too, but the OP doesn't have 16" wheels or axles that would require the expense of G rated tire.

215/85R16's and new wheels are what you need. 235/85R16's will require 35" axle spacing and trailers equipped with 225's usually have 33" spacing.

Thanks, guess I am stuck with ST tires, until I can get 16" rims. Any recommendations?

The only one I could "Recommend" to ya would be the Maxxis 8008 although the Towmax STR's work great in the 15" and down sizes and are easy to get.
